My First Query

Hello friends. Today I want to share with you how my book journey is going so far.

After all the writing and editing, I am proud to say I have sent my first query letter. It amazes me how much I have grown throughout this process. With the help of some amazing beta readers, and my Chicago Manual of Style, I have whipped my manuscript into shape.

I researched how to write query letters, book blurbs, and synopses. Finally, the time came when I felt ready to draft and submit my first email.

Let me say how terrifying and nerve-wracking it is to click the send button. I must have read the whole email, including the first three pages of my manuscript, at least a dozen times. Fighting the urge to either chicken out or make unnecessary changes, I held my breath and sent it to the literary agent.

Now begins the hardest part of the journey: waiting. My nerves have me checking my email several times a day. Yet I know and constantly remind myself this is just the beginning, and this is just one query letter. Finding an agent is a long and difficult process.

While my original author goal was to self-publish, attempting to go the traditional book publishing route has been fun and eye-opening. I even learned how to condense my full-length novel into a short, two sentence blurb.

How was your first query experience?
